New York City Wind Topples Seaport Christmas Tree

Scheduled to fly in or out of New York City today? Your flight is likely delayed or cancelled, thanks to heavy rain and winds. Around this time last year, heavy winds gusting to 100 mph caused debris to fall off the under-construction 77-story Beekman Tower. Today, the Financial District’s latest weather victim is the recently erected South Street Seaport Christmas Tree, which celebrated its lighting just this Friday. Contractors were on the scene to dismantle the tree shortly after it fell. As the city’s second most prominent tree, I imagine it will be replaced rather quickly.
