Final AYCJ Trip: St. Maarten

October 4, 2010

My final All You Can Jet trip to Sint Maarten, Netherlands Antilles was also one of my favorite. Shortly after landing, I met my JetBlue pilots on Maho Beach, Guy and Shawn, who were also spending just one night on the island before flying me back to JFK the next day. They were a lot of fun, and had tons of great stories to share with me and some other AYCJ travelers that we met on the beach. I loved St. Maarten, and not only because of the famous beach adjacent to SXM airport. The locals and tourists were all very friendly, the weather was great, and my hotel — the Westin Dawn Beach — was very affordable and convenient.

Like other islands in the Caribbean, many of the tourists on the island arrive on cruise ships, so they tend to come in waves. Luckily only one ship had docked during my stay, so the streets of Philipsburg — the capital of the Dutch side of the island — were fairly manageable.
