A House on Long Island for $50?
Sure, if you happen to feel lucky with 1:30,000 odds. A Long Island family decided to auction off their $1.6 Million home after listing it unsuccessfully for a year. 10,000 tickets have been sold so far, and if the seller’s reserve of 24,000 tickets is not met by the December 15 deadline, then 98% of the $50 purchase price will be refunded. That doesn’t seem all that fair, considering the owner is likely earning interest on the $500,000 he’s raised so far. (Who in their right mind would buy raffle tickets four months before the deadline?) Because of Internet legalities, the seller is technically selling a “portrait of the home” by “an up and coming artist by the name of Nunzio Carbese.” Individuals will receive one free raffle ticket with each portrait purchased. (Spoiler alert: there isn’t really a portrait.)
