Must See: The Cloisters and Ft. Tyron Park

August 23, 2009

The Cloisters

Far removed from the hustle and bustle to the south, The Cloisters and Fort Tyron Park are an oasis in Manhattan, located at the island’s northern tip. Tourists were scarce on a Sunday afternoon at The Cloisters, a branch of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The museum and nearby Fort Tyron Park, which provides hilltop views of the Hudson River and George Washington Bridge to the south, are easily accessible from the A subway train and definitely top my list of NYC sanctuaries. Be sure to bring your camera (or iPhone, which I’m using to type this post from the subway). Admission to the museum (open daily 9:30-5:45, and closed on Mondays with shorter hours in winter) is by donation (suggested $10 for students, $20 for adults).
