Weekend Getaway: Mont-Tremblant, QC

August 2, 2009

tremblantI just returned from a quick weekend trip to Mont-Tremblant, QC, a ski resort 90 minutes north of Montréal (about 8 hours from NYC with traffic). I try to visit my family’s condo at Tremblant at least once a year, and decided to head up there with a couple of friends this summer. Tremblant is incredible during the winter, but there’s actually quite a bit to do in summer as well, assuming it doesn’t rain. During our 36-hour Canadian adventure, my friends and hiked from the summit to the resort (about four hours); toured St. Jovite, a quaint nearby town; enjoyed oven-fresh French pastries, savory crêpes, and poutine (a Quebec favorite consisting of hand cut french fries, cheese curds and brown gravy); stopped by an outdoor concert; spent a few minutes in Tremblant’s new casino; and even visited the Biodome (very briefly) and Vieux Montréal (the old city) before returning to the States. All in all, it was an incredible weekend. If you’re looking for a quick getaway, Tremblant is definitely worth a visit, and you don’t even need a car to get there (Continental offers direct service from Newark Airport during the winter)! If you’re looking for a place to stay while you’re there, I definitely recommend Les Sommet Des Neiges as well (seen below).
